Thumbs Down: Kobe Bryant

I have never understood why some let others off the hook for bad behavior because they have a talent. I try hard not to be judgemental, we all have struggles and all deserve to be cut some slack from time to time. But...if you let someone off the hook, cool, but do please do it based on what they did, not because of what they do for a living. I love basketball and love watching Kobe play. But...

His behavior was bad, his excuse for it...pathetic.

Story:

The Superbowl

Putting Glee with the Superbowl is a rather confusing combo. Sort of like a mash up of Celine Dion and Judas Priest (which it would not surprise me if Glee did one day). I am a huge sports nut, especially basketball and hockey. I have not however, gotten the appeal of football, especially American Football. I will be watching though as my brother and his new girlfriend are coming over (could it be my wonderful company or the fact they have a 20 inch and I have a much larger flat screen).

And...because this is FH....one combo that does work is The Carlson's and football.

Warwick Rowing Team by Barnsbury Studio

This past September I discovered the work of Angus Malcolm of Barnsbury Studios. I fell in love with the way he shot his models. Clean, classic, simple shots. I did two posts, one featuring a variety of images (HERE) and another with actor and model Tom Reader, (HERE) one of my favorite guys shot by Angus.

Barnsbury studios just completed a great new project, shooting a calendar for the senior men's rowing team at Warwick, one of the UK's top universities. Angus said the shoot was different fro his normal normal style of shooting, 'less fashion-oriented, less studio lighting', but, the images are really spectacular, encompassing the same magic Angus brings to his studio work.

Since the success of Stade, this time of year, many sports teams come out with calendars. I must say this one is without a doubt my favorite. While I loved the first few years of the Stade calendars, they seemed to have forgotten the reason many of us were so in love with the first few versions. Angus Malcolm's work for Warwick actually has the look, feel, even smell of University and although posed, the models and shots look like they were captured in a real moment and not one created by make up and wind machines. The Warwick team looks natural and Angus captures them beautifully.

The University of Warwick Boat Club is a large and highly active sports club with substantial ambitions. Substantial ambitions, mean substantial costs. Following the overwhelming response to their first naked calendar in 2010, Warwick University's senior rowing team have stripped off again. Over a dozen of the rowers are baring all to raise much-needed funds to meet the needs of the club for the 2011 year.

Thanks to Angus Malcolm from Barnsbury Studios for sharing some of the calendar with FH! Be sure to check out more of Barnsbury's work on MM HERE:

Just Because: David Beckham

On Sunday it seems David Beckham cut his finger and had to change his shirt twice and then finally had to change his shorts. He preceded to do so right on the field and was said to have got quite a reaction from the crowd. This did not seem to slow down Beckham, who still hopes to play for London but will play out the remainder of his contract for LA. Even with the mishap, Beckham scored for the LA Galaxy in the 2-1 win over FC Dallas.

Thanks to the original poster!

Nick Youngquest for Checkum!

The Checkum campaign, in association with Macmillan Cancer Support, features posters of more than 30 UK celebrities including FH favorite Nick Youngquest, sending the message that there is no embarrassment in getting the right advice about a potentially deadly form of cancer. The controversial year-long campaign – which includes contributions from singer Ronan Keating, rugby internationals Ben Cohen, Adam Rickitt, BB's Dale Howard and Olympic swimmer Mark Foster among others. I am sure you have seen many of these great public service posters around the net, but when I saw Nick's I had to post!

Just Because: The World Cup

With The World Cup almost at an end I thought I should post about three of my favorite players.

USA's steely captain Carlos Bocanegra is an uncompromising centre-back, always willing to put his body on the line for the American cause.

After having shown early promise in Lorient’s youth team, Yoann Gourcuff entered Rennes’ academy in 2001, at the same time as his dad Christian was appointed coach of the club.
