Well, by "working off the server" I HOPE you don't mean working off a live HTTP server! That is, I hope they aren't modifying a live web-server in place.
If you're talking about a fileserver, you are MUCH better off working "off the server". That way, you can enforce backup whether your designers like it or not. If they copy stuff down and back up, you can bet they will squirrel stuff away on their own machine where it will get lost. (Of course, they are going to do this anyway! One strategy is to limit the amount of disk space on their machines...)
I also hope you have some sort of revision control system in place. Of course you don't. You're a design firm ;)

It depends on your needs, if you have two notebooks with the same specs and differing only in weight, the lighter one will probably be more expensive, but if you need something that is very portable then it is probably worth it and thus better. If you don't care about weight, the heavier one will be cheaper and better for your needs.

90% of my work is done in PhotoShop. Without it I'd be lost. So I'd have to say Adobe. Now if only I could get my company to drop Quark for InDesign . . .
I dont know why, but I've always preferred fireworks to photoshop. I guess it's because I dont do particularly graphics intensive stuff, and I always found photoshop to be more confusing than fireworks.
oh well, everyone to their own :)

Some of my favs...
Super Stardust HD
PixelJunk Monsters
PixelJunk Eden
PixelJunk Shooter
Echochrome
Super Stardust is a twin-stick shooter that is a ton of fun and quite easy to learn. I really enjoy the PixelJunk games. Shooter is probably the best one, but it is a bit short. Eden is fun, but the difficulty ramps up to just BRUTAL levels. Monsters is great if you like "Tower Defense" games. Echocrome is a really neat puzzle game.

The 6970 came out this year.
@OP: Yes it will handle decent gaming for about that time, but expect that you may have to play future games at slightly lower setting over the time.
No, the 6970 is a 2 year old card. It may have come OUT this year.

BTW... Add tax, for whereever most people are and you are most likely paying about $137-$138. I am doing a new one for $120 shipped.
Then make your own thread:D I dont think he will charge tax.

I think if we were going to see a Blu Ray drive offered, it would have been part of the Mac Pro updates last week, so I'm doubting that's pending soon. There are third party drives available, though.
3G iPhone has been expected for this Summer at earliest all along, so I'd expect an announcement at WWDC in June with immediate or very soon availability. If there's not a 16GB by then I'd expect one then. We'll most likely know 100% when it's coming too, because the FCC filings have to be submitted months in advance.
Are third party drives compatible with Macbook Pro? I'm talking about one you could actually put in the notebook and use on the go. I'd like it to be fully functional for both storage and BD playback.

A Mac isn't designed for gaming. It will work, but if your primary concern is games, then you really should look elsewhere.

Samsung gives 3 years even for OEM.I have never used a Samsung drive, nor do I know anybody who has. Do they actually make their own? Or do they get drives relabeled from another company?

wow, thanks for that. :)
Good suggestions, I suppose I got stumped for that (colour) as well. The full-colour version looked almost too saturated and and the purely black/white looked too plain. I kinda went with a cross between the two and it came out more sepia-ish.
B+W with red toe-nails?? I'm sure you could PS that without a re-shoot.
What are we talking about, you're going to win anyway.

I recently saw a pc with OSX running on it. And that's neat. I'm mainly a Windows user but I've remained respectful to Apple hardware but I can't stand OSX. It's stable and it's easy to use but I much rather prefer the unrestricted control a knowledgeable user can have over Windows. Thus leads me to my question;
Has anyone gotten or heard of anyone getting Windows to run on a Mac without an excruciatingly slow emulator? Is there any chance of this happening in the future?

I say sell the older machine... and get the new 12"iBook and the 20" iMac G5. :D I have the combo and I love it. Honestly, I can't see the need for power (for most students) in a portable... save some money by having a more powerful desktop and a nice portable that can easily handle the basics and then some.

It sounds like he was recruited into the gaming Mafia or something!Well, the gaming community definitely gets intense in their er... 'hobby' or lifestyle. They take things berseriously. Like the person who stabbed someone w/ a screwdriver at one exhibition event. And come on, who wouldn't take a 'game' seriously if the prize was sponsored gaming set ups from big companies and free games/software/hardware and even beaucoup cash?! :p

Absolutely. If you're on AT&T's $25.00/month plan it will cost you and extra $20 in the months when you do that. AT&T has told me that if you've got one of the old $30/month unlimited data plans you can use the iPhone as a hotspot with no additional charge.

Get a Seagate.
Nice 5-year warranty and nearly dead silent.
I had four of them in my last PM.
The Maxtor in my PM sounds like a hamster on a wheel compared to my nice, quiet Seagate.

But my gut feeling says you are all correct and this is a con.
I'm gonna request my friend to meet him in the city.
If he doesn't have a 32GB iphone sealed, he won't be getting his bargaining chip back.

Things made for vinyl don't sound right digital
what does that mean? if i play a record over my system, and then digitize it and play it over that system, why won't it sound the same? or is that not what you meant?
