Hello everyone,
this is my first post, but I've been reading you all for a while now. I'm waiting for the MBP merom like most of the people here, but do you think there a possibility to see new Displays as well at Photokina? Maybe built-in iSight?
No one knows for sure, but I doubt it. The displays just got a spec bump and price drop a month ago.

Assuming (1) changes in tax policy have immediate effects, and (2) there is no such thing as as normal economic business cycles that overlay tax changes.
Is there such a thing as a "normal economic business cycle"? Seems like every cycle involves a different regulatory environment, different tax structure and different fad currents. How can one even suggest that what worked before will work again? (My car was overheating and losing coolant, so I replaced the water pump, therefore, if I experience more overheating and leaking, that is what I should do again.)
Really, the cycles appear to be too steep on both sides. To me, it looks like the sheep converging on what is hot at the moment are causing the bubbles. A roaring economy almost always leads to a crash, we should have smoother growth with shallower cycles, perhaps by throttling massive movements of capital. An unregulated market does correct itself as needed, but the corrections sure look a lot worse than they need to be. At least as far as I can see.

wow, most importantly on slide 3 they say that they launched the 965 chipset. that means they can switch to the 965 integrated GPU across the board for consumer macs. that would certainly help the heat issues, make the macs cheaper and less complicated to design for apple. standard parts and boards allow for even faster updates. good news.Only one problem though. The scheduling for that release is quite messy. Santa Rosa is based on the G965 and won't launch until Q2 2007.

Oh yah, there was one. It was a CD player that was soooo bad hardy a soul bought it and it's barely remembered. I think it happened while Steve was at Next abd the idjuts were in control of of Apple. It may have set a record for a short lifespan, not counting Microsoft's vaporware that was never spawned.

I meant Geforce GO7800, a mistake on my part.
I did some more poking around, and apparently, a Go 7900 model (90nm) that has a TDP rated at around 10% more than the rated TDP of the X1600.
That might be possible. Based on that the Go 7700 80nm should easily consume less power than the current X1600, and given the base 7600 was faster than the X1600, the 7700 (based on the 7600GS) should offer significant speedup for 3D.
It'll be interesting to see if Apple favors Intel with the AMD-ATI merger/buyout, too.
Finally, there's always the (rather unlikely, admittedly) possibility that the MBPs (perhaps just the 17"?) would offer MXM slots; currently, MXM means nVidia.

I am very excited to see what Apple is going to make of a mobile phone (or whatever it will be). iChat integration would be great, but even greater still, is an EASY way to use iChat to communicate with the rest of the world. Not just MSN, but Yahoo and a host of other services, why don't they all sit down and either use all formats, or agree upon a common standard so that everyone can contact eachother, just like we can do by using a phone! Which is where we started this thread about. About that 'PC guy' remark, Apple is in the Mac business when it comes to computers. Not PC's. (Yes I know a Mac is a PC in a sense, but it's far more developed, and sexy, yes I said it, sexy!Macs are sexy, and they also work well for those who are not sensitive to that appeal)

Dude... your contract is only there to cover the subsidized cost of your phone. You don't have to sign a new contract to keep your pricing. Just let it go and all will be the same until you upgrade. There is no price changes because your contract is up.
The downside is you are giving them "free" money since you are paying the subsidized price for your contract, but no longer using a subsidized phone. It would be nice if after your contract is over with your bill goes down (removing the subsidy payment). I think it would allow people to divorce the contract price versus the phone price.

The cost for final assembly is minor.
For example, the cost to make an iPhone may be 200 dollars. It probably costs $1 for the final assembly (or by your calculation, $7 if the assembly is done in US). However, if you manufacture all the parts in US, it will cost $1400.
A major portion of these components were American made. In 2000, American EXPORTED more high tech components than it imported. Typically assembly is a large portion of manufacturing costs. We competed and still can today.

Maybe they are going to start releasing all iOS hardware updates in September?
It is closer to the holidays which would be good for sales of those new products, but at the same time launching 2-3 new products in one month would be a waste of the massive amounts of publicity each launch gets. (Except maybe the iPod touch which usually isn't very much)
I don't think they will launch iPad 3 in September either just because the demand for iPad 2 will still be high, and probably elevated with the launch of iOS 5.
Announcing iPhone 5 at WWDC when it doesn't launch until September would probably hurt iPhone 4 sales up to that point.

I think that Apple will introduce IOS 5 in June/July, when it introduces the iPhone 5 (assuming that's what they call it). If there is some aspect of ios 5 that they can't get ready until Fall, they may have an ios 5.3 update in the Fall.
This is the most sensible conclusion. Game Center wasn't ready for the prime time upon release of the offical 4.0, so it came with 4.1. This is a clever move for Apple as it gives the feeling of extra value added to those who could update as not everyone with these devices even knew it existed until it landed on their device. We of course knew better so it wasn't a shock to us, but the bottom line is we all benefit from it.

I'm sure you'll be able to crank out some more, but battery life all depends on real world usage more than anything else.
Now that I think about it, I'm willing to bet they will be upgraded shortly to Core 2, the mini and the iMac that is, since its socketable.
Maybe thats why the MBP Pro is not socketed, they wanted to design a new casing for the Core 2 Macbook Pros, and didnt want people
just opening they're Core 1 models and just dropping the new Core 2 into it.

You do realise you can switch your multi-path policy to something like Round-Robin or Least used link or something and use both your fabrics at the same time, giving you double bandwidth (in your 4 Gig port configuration, giving you 8 Gbps, or in a 8 Gbps FC configuration, 16) right ? Actually, you should have a look at what it is set to, some versions of ESX and ESXi are completely retarded and set the default policy to use Fabric 1 only (older versions prior to 4.x didn't have a supported configuration for using both paths at the same time, the support was experimental I believe).
Or you can run FCoE or FCoIP and use dual 10 Gbps for FC on the cheap (I do realise HBAs can be pricey). Or heck, iSCSI over 10 Gbps links...
Also, looking at my current I/O statistics for one of our biggest ESXi boxes (about 20 VMs), I see we average about... 10 mbps over the fiber. ;) Servers aren't constantly writing at full bandwidth anyhow and the convenience of centralized SAN management trumps Direct Attached Storage any day of the week in a data center environnement.
Heck, I wish our DMZ servers could be attached to the SAN (stupid Security policies) so that I could actually grow the filesystems on which the file repository sits... seeing how Sun (now Oracle) wants to charge us over 10k$ for about 72 GBs of disks, just because the hardware is EOL'd and it lacks the 2nd controller so that we can use the drive bays that are free in it...
If I am not mistaken our PE 2970s are 10gig (x4), I do not know about the Equallogic (I'm just the "helper" on most of this anyway) but I assume it is 10gig as well. What makes this funny to me is that we should be able to use one physical link per server back to the equallogic and have greater throughput versus going from the 2950 to a 3com 4500 (1gig switch, I 10gig switch would be a great start here) and back to the equallogic. (that would throw out redundancy though)(Lead systems guy threw in a 4400 by mistake initally) Most of our VMs are file sharing servers instead of processing servers, I would think the higher the transmit speed the better. We also recently added an R715 and it likes to take the brunt of the load from the cluster (16 physical cores/32GB RAM in it vs 8/32GB in the 2950s) so it having greater throughput would be helpful. You are so right. I'm thrilled with Apple's brainwashed minions, and even happier that I began loading up on Apple stock over a decade ago.
Little did I realize they would bring us shareholders so much wealth. To think that I bought a load of shares when it was under $20 per, then kept adding each year since, brings a huge grin.
At this point everything I buy is nearly free. And when they screw up the masses still buy it. Nothing could be sweeter.

Myself, I see a computer as a box of bits. I really don't care what the "box" looks like, it's just a box, it's what's on screen that matters to me.
I would NEVER EVER compromise what a computer can do to make it fit inside a pretty box, which is why I can never like an iMac as it's just fundamentally a bad design, cramming a lot inside a tight hot case just to make it look pretty.
I don't care who makes a product, and I have no brand loyalty at all.
I will go for the best I think I can find/afford at time of purchase based upon the criteria that matter to me.
Case thinness, material it's made from, colour, etc are all way down on my list of importance.
But then, Apple don't generally make anything for me due to this.
The current iPad2 being the exception as, at the moment I'm more than happy to admit that despite the bad lockdowns Apple has applied to the iPad, it's technically the best tablet at the moment.
I will draw back that statement a little as it can't read memory cards and lacks output ports and is lumbered with iTunes, but putting those negatives to one side, it's positives in speed and quality outweigh those points at the moment.
